IST is fully accredited by both the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) in the USA and the Council of International Schools (CIS) in Europe. The school is an IB World School authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (Grades 11-12), the Middle Years Programme (Grades 6-10), and the Primary Years Programme (Grades NPK-5).The school year begins and ends in early August and June respectively, and is divided into two semesters, with 180 student contact days in total. There are eight, 40-minute class periods per day with double periods in most academic subject areas. IST graduated its first class in 2005, with graduates thus far having been admitted to over 200 of the world’s most prestigious universities, including Brown, Berkeley, Cambridge, Cornell, Hong Kong UST, Kyoto, Melbourne, Seoul National,Toronto, and Yonsei. IST currently enrolls approximately 450 students from 31 different countries, with German, American, French, Ethnic Chinese, and Korean students making up the largest percentages. English is the school’s common social language and principal language of instruction, with Korean, German, French and Mandarin Chinese constituting the next most prevalent mother tongue languages. Approximately 40 of the current faculty have advanced degrees and all are fully certified. Teachers are supported by 25 Chinese teaching assistants, all of whom have university degrees and several of whom hold teaching certificates.
